As part of my Marketing class I was required to write a small analysis of a mission statement of a company. I chose Johnson & Johnson as the company of my choice.
As I have posted before, some of these articles I wrote for my other classes would be a good reading as well. Developing A Global Brand, Starbucks Marketing Strategy International Marketing, Cultural Icons, Group Dynamics, Corporate Culture, and Organizational Culture.
The mission statement of Johnson & Johnson is quite long, but it does present the company's vision, goals, who it is serving, corporate responsibility, and can easily be understood by all of its employees. The mission statement doesn't explicitly state what industry Johnson & Johnson is in, but it can be interpreted that the company is in the health industry and in non-durable goods that affects parents and their children. From Johnson & Johnson's mission statement we can interpret that that as a company, Johnson & Johnson placed the most importance on consumers who used its products. These consumers included doctors, nurses, patients, mothers, and fathers. The vision of the company could be described as meeting all the possible needs of these consumers at a reasonable price along with a satisfying customer experience.
Along with the consumers, mission statement shows us that the company also places importance on being environmentally friends, how its employees are treated, civic responsibility and betterment of communities where the company is based in, fair return on investments by stock holders, and profitability of company's suppliers and distributors.
