Microsoft Perception

Microsoft - The Blind Goliath

I will be discussing my perception of Microsoft in this article. I have always thought of Microsoft as a company that was too big for its own good. The company has so much cash, and it just doesn't seem to know how to use that cash properly at all. It is always the follower and never the leader. Although it’s a follower, it usually ends up grabbing the market, destroying its rivals and innovation along with it. I am not one of the Microsoft haters. I am more of "I can't digest Apple". To me, Microsoft is a goliath that is completely blind. Don't forget for a second that it is still dangerous, all it needs is a one "lucky" hit and you are out. That to me is Microsoft - slamming everywhere aimlessly.

Take the search market for example, Microsoft was absolutely slow to respond in the first place, and now that Google has been doing exceptionally in it - Microsoft jumps in it. Right now, I have no idea what Microsoft is doing, except the fact that they are pumping millions into it and nothing has come of it - yet. This leads me to assume that Microsoft is going to use it monopolistic tendencies to grab the market just as it did with Internet Explorer. If you can't fight an enemy fair, then play crooked seems to be Microsoft mantra. I am pretty positive that the only way, Microsoft can dent in Google's dominance in search market is by playing crooked. I cannot see how Microsoft can honestly dislodge Google.

I think Microsoft did a pretty good job with its Xbox. Although it was a follower - which is the case with Microsoft anyway, the Xbox and its follow up system seems to be a success and a good bet. Hopefully, things turn out to be good for the Digital Music Player segment that Microsoft seems to be now obsessed with. I am not sure if you remember the over-hyped Origami. I was so excited that some revolutionary product was going to be unveiled, and was ready to shell out a grand or more for it. The end result was absolutely disappointing. I had so many hopes up on Microsoft Origami a.k.a the Ultra Mobile Personal Computer, and Apple completely splashed water all over it. It just turned out to be nothing more than glorified PC, and it went nowhere. I have read a couple stories about new UMPC products being unveiled, but that’s' it - nothing more. I hope that Microsoft doesn't make Zune and its future line meet the same fate as Origami, as I happen to own a Zune. Although this was not as good as Ipod, I surely hope that Microsoft comes out a product similar to Iphone without the stupid phone contracts Apple requires us to have with Cingular.
