Portfolio Management Project
As you guys know one of the courses I am taking this semester is Portfolio Management. I looked over the class syllabus and I do think that this course will help me big time in understanding how to build a portfolio, what type of securities to use, and what should constitute my portfolio. One of the biggest parts of my course is a project. The project basically requires me to build two portfolios and observe how the portfolio is doing weekly. I am going to post the results of my Portfolio and what stocks, treasuries, bonds, and mutual funds I have used. I will post weekly performance results of my Portfolio. I have to use Wall Street Journal to pick up my stocks, and mutual funds. Here is a little information about my Portfolio Management Project:
The project is designed to make me familiar with Wall Street Journal, evaluate the characteristics and performance of individual securities, tract the performance of selected portfolios and the stock market over a period of time, and observe the effects of diversification. This project is an individual effort, and is supposed to be all typed in as usual. I am going to be given $500,000 and am expected to use these funds to build two portfolios. My first Portfolio is supposed to consist of a mutual fund picked from Wall Street Journal and at least $100,000 must be used for this fund. This is supposed to allow me to compare the volatility and performance of my portfolio to professionally managed Portfolios. I am supposed to use the remaining money to construct my second portfolio. My second portfolio must consist of at least six stocks that are traded either on New York Stock Exchange, AMEX, or OTC exchange, and at least one Treasury bond, and Treasury bill.
At the moment, I haven’t picked any bonds, stocks, or mutual fund. But, I will do that soon. If you guys have any portfolio management experience, and want to drop in a line, I would be more than happy.
