SEC Filings Guide
For those of you who are new to reading quarterly or yearly filings of company’s 10-Q and 10-K reports, I came across a site that breaks down the information very easily. The page tells you what to look for in 10-Q and 10-K reports, any significant deviations from previous filings. As I am myself new to looking at 10-Q and 10-K reports, this page provided a valuable guide to me.
Some useful points on the web page that I personally thought were useful are:
- Is there a sizable difference between Quarterly Earnings and 10-Q?
- Is the company’s deferred income tax growing?
- What is the company’s effective income tax rate?
- How is the company handing its debt?
- How much has the stockholder’s equity changed over the past year?
- What interest rate is the company using to calculate pension income?
One of the useful things is the URL to SEC’s Edgar Database. The URL has filings of various public companies. The site is an excellent place for financial investors who want to dig information on companies they want to invest by themselves or want a second opinion.
