Sprint Nextel Current Event Analysis
As part of my Marketing Strategy class, I was required to write a critique on any current event. I chose Sprint as the target of my critique. I wrote the critique on October 29 based on Sprint's earnings report news.

The article is pretty short, and basically analyzes Sprint Nextel.
Sprint Nextel Analysis
Sprint Next Corporation has reported a larger than expected loss because it has been subsidizing more smart phones to remain competitive. The company increased smart phone offerings in order to remain competitive against its larger rivals, AT&T and Verizon. Some of these new phones include HTC Hero (which uses Google Android Operating System) and Palm Pre. Sprint hopes that by offering smart phones along with data plans that are cheaper than its competitors would lure customers away from them.
Sprint's hope of luring customers away hasn't so far been successful because the company is still losing more customers than its gaining. The company lost 801,000 subscribers in the last quarter alone causing the company $478 million in losses.
The company's strategy appears to be to offer services at a lower price along with cheaper phones compared to its rivals. Sprint is also maintaining a strong focus on providing and increasing data services and revenues which now represent 30% of company's average customer's monthly bill.
