Subscribing To Wall Street Journal

I have been delaying this for far too long. I was advised by my professors (for good reason), to subscribe to Wall Street Journal. I have been told this in all my financial classes starting with Financial Securities and Investments class that I have taken last summer. Unfortunately, I keep delaying subscribing to Wall Street Journal, and I still haven't subscribed to it. I have managed the last half year by using campus subscribed Wall Street paper, but I think if I am going to be serious in my endeavor of mastering in the Financial field, I must first have my own subscription. So, I have decided that tonight, I will be getting myself a Wall Street for sure

I haven’t decided what type of subscription to take there are numerous options that appear on their site. The Print and Online Edition of paper costs $99 Annually, while online only edition costs $79. As a student, I believe that I get a discount when I subscribe to the Journal, but I couldn't find how much of a discount I would be getting over the currently provided promotion at Wall Street. It shows a price of $29.95 for 15 weeks. I am not sure how it would be a big discount when compared to $99 for the whole year that is being shown on main page.

You can get free access to the Wall Street Journal every month with a netpass from Congoo: http://www.congoo.com/netpass/install

They were blogging about this yesterday.

I think, there are some privacy issues there. I doubt anything is free, there is always a catch. In their case, I am sure web surfing habits, and personal information is their way of compensating for free stuff.

They didnt verify the email address I gave them...they didnt ask my name and their provacy policy says they dont record my searches....

Google asks my name, verifies my email address and records my searches.

What privacy issue are you referring to?

From their Privacy Policy:

When registering on Congoo, Congoo collects personal information, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address and telephone number. We may also collect demographic information, such as your ZIP code, age, gender, preferences, occupation, interests and favorites. Information collected on Congoo may be combined with information obtained from other Congoo services and other companies.

AND

We may collect information about your visit, including the pages you view, the links you click and other actions taken in connection with Congoo sites and services. We also collect certain standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and language, access times and referring Web site addresses.

It is a free service obviously and they have to pay some way for it. It is a good option for some, and I am sure some of the visitors to the site would use, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.

On a note, I got my Wall Street Subscription yesterday, so its a bit late even if I was considering it.

I think everyone forgot one important thing...If you enter your credit card information, you are absolutley giving up your privacy...its your real name, its your real credit card number. At least with any other non-credit card based web service you can enter anything you like...fake, made up...whatever...I'll take the free service for all those reasons and for more...its free!
