As gas prices are increasing, so are energy bills that we have to pay monthly. DTE Energy is our utility company, and our monthly bills have been consistently been increasing except the last month which saw a dramatic fall in price (I guess with winter being over). Unlike rising gas prices for whom whom I can blame the oil corporations or the OPEC, I don't think I can really blame the utility companies, although I would love to.

There are some interesting tidbits you will find if you login to the online center of DTE Energy. Since I don't really want to talk about finance or other topics, I am just going to ramble about my monthly energy bill.

One useful tool I found in DTE Energy online website was "Analyze My Bill", which basically tells me about the consumption of energy by my home. My gas bill was 150 for the last month which is about $100 less than normal, and apparently weather was the primary reason. The weather decreased my bill by about $70 to $115. Now, if weather is such is such a factor, I guess living in a place that is warm all year round would definitely reduce my bills each month (I guess once I wrap up my MBA, I should look for jobs in such place). My gas rate increased for the month but it doesn't say by how much, and that my gas and electric usage also decreased for the billing month. Compared to last year, I consumed about a hundred more kilowatt per hour for electric use. I was told that since I live in a corner, my energy bills is going to be higher than normal as it directly faces the wind, and that there is nothing I can do about that. So, the next time I am apartment hunting, I will make sure, it is inside and nowhere facing any winds.

On an another note, paying bills online is the best thing to ever happen. I don't have to wait forever for the checks to be posted or delayed. Online Bill Paying is a life saver, in fact this gives me an idea, I am going to be talking about Paying Bills online. One of my articles for tomorrow would be paying bills online, the convenience and the peace of mind behind it.
