Getting a Free Credit Report
How to get a free Credit Report
I think most of you by now have heard or watched those free credit report commercials on TV. The link given in the commercials isn't the actualy free credit report site. The actual site where you get your free credit report is from AnnualCreditReport.com. The site provides you a credit report from 3 different credit reporting companies, namely Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union.
Now, if you have never had checked your credit report, I would suggest that you use utilize these 3 free credit reports by using one every 4 months. You get one free credit report from one credit reporting company in a year. So, instead of using all the 3 credit reports at once, use one free credit report every four months. In addition to that, I also suggest that you sign up for a subscription (like I do), with one of the credit reporting agencies if you are making a big purchase, especially a house. Right now, I have a monthly Score Watch product subscribed to Equifax. It costs me $10 each month and alerts me whenever there has been update to my credit score or if my debt is too high. I find it useful because my credit history is new, and I would like to build a high credit score, as such, I would like to know how I am spending and make sure I don't go over the limit which would harm my credit score, especially given the fact that I am interested in buying a new car, and in this credit squeezed environment, having a high credit score wouldn't hurt.
