A pirate mother ship destroyed by the Indian Navy - Pirates Ship goes down in flames, 1800 AD Style!
thought this was an interesting news piece. According to news reports, the Indian Naval Ship INS Tabar destroyed a Somalian pirate "mothership". Apparently, the Indian Frigate wanted to investigate the vessel, but after repeated calls the pirate "mother ship" threatened the frigate with its destruction (this is hilarious- you have to be stupid as hell to threaten a frigate).
An exchange for fire ensued, forcing INS Tabar to use heavy guns which caused an explosion on the pirate mothership. The mothership was destroyed, and one of the two fast boats it carried was abandoned and the other managed to escape. I can't believe that in this day and age, there are pirates running around seizing ships. Recently, the pirates got their biggest loot - a Saudi Oil tanker worth $100 million. What's making the situation worse is that many a times, the companies that own these ships that were hijacked are paying ransom fees demanded by these pirates - further encouraging more pirate attacks.
Just on a background: INS Tabar (meaning battle axe) is a Talwar Class Frigate built for the Indian Navy by Russians. Apparently Indians have a lot of trade that goes through Gulf of Aden, hence the reason why INS Tabar alone has seen more action against the pirates than the entire Naval Coalition currently policing the sea route. For those of you who just realized, "India has a Navy?", Indian Navy is currently the 5th largest navy in the world, and operates one of the two aircraft carriers in India. Further, if any of you are wondering if Indian Navy has nuclear submarines, then you would be surprised that Indian Navy will soon have their own nuclear submarine call ATV - Advanced Technology Vehicle, and the recent Russian Nuclear Submarine - Nerpa that met with an accident was actually meant for the Indian Navy - Ouch!
I have been going through a lot of blogs and the reactions seem to be very positive from "Score 1 for the Good Guys" to frustration that U.S. should have drawn the first pirate blood. It seems a lot of commenters are vying for pirate blood - I think a lot of them think it is adventurous.

I guess, we now have our own modern Pirates of the Carribean, the only thing we have missing is the Somalian version of Captain Jack Sparrow.
