Learning to Fix Cars
Well, I think at one point or time you must have felt that you are being taken for a ride by the auto mechanic, and for the last two times I have been to an auto mechanic, I felt like I am pretty much being fleeced by my auto mechanic.
Just for starters, I know absolutely nothing about cars - zip, nada. My knowledge of cars after opening the hood consists of putting the windshiled wiper fluid. Besides that, I know how to change tires, and jump start a car, I don't really know anything else. I did think of trying to change my own oil, but I later dropped the idea.
Anyway, the last time I went to a mechanic was because my car seemed to make some noise, so I decided to have it checked, and he told me it has so and so problems and it needed to be fixed, and it would cost me a couple hundred bucks. When I drove home, I still heard that noise very subtely, and after a few days, that sound was heard full blown again. So, I take the car back, and he tells me that this problem is seperate from the one he fixed and this problem would cost me upwards of $300.
Constantly going to mechanics is pretty annoying, and it is costing me a fortune on top of that. Buying a new car isn't even an option right now, and even if I did, at some point or time I would have to go to a mechanic only to be fleeced again. So, I decided that I am going to start learning how to repair cars by myself. It would give me a good idea, about the vehicle I am driving, would be very handy to me in the future, and I could probably be use the skills I acquire helping others, and maybe make a little side pay checque as well. I picked up Auto Repair for Dummies book, and have read about 40 pages. I am serious about this, so I am probably going to read a few books to get myself acquainted on repairing cars. I have already made a list of tools that I need to buy to help me in fixing cars.
We will see how far I will go in this venture, but I am hoping that I would get as much skills as I have trying to build websites which have helped me out very much.
