Sanjay Gupta Opts out of Surgeon General

If you guys can remember, President Obama picked Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN to be his Surgeon General. There were a few sceptics and a lot of supporters for Dr. Gupta. Anyway, it appears that the commitment the post of Surgeon General requires has made Gupta to decline the position. Dr. Gupta apparently wants to spend more time with his family, especially considering that his wife is expecting their third child.

I think he would have made a good Surgeon General, regardless, we will see more of Sanjay Gupta on CNN. It would nonetheless be a dissapointment for the Indian American community who are hoping that his appointment would make the community more visible. The appointment of Vivek Kundra as the Country's first Chief Technological Officer would nonetheless even out his withdrawal.
