This is the third paper of my Genetic Engineering Series. This page basically contains the thesis statement I wrote for Genetic Engineering research paper, and my search strategy. I finished my search strategy article on March 8, 2002, while the thesis statement was done on March 18. The previous two articles I published on Genetic Engineering were Interview Questions and Genetic Engineering Log.

Genetic Engineering Thesis Statement

Genetic Engineering is the intentional alteration of genetic material. Human understanding on this subject is very minute. Any interference in a person’s genetic makeup can cause irreversible damage, outweighing the benefits of Genetic Engineering such as eradication of diseases, hereditary defects, and shortage of nutritious food.

Genetic Engineering Search Strategy

What kind of sources do you think will be useful?
For MLA research paper, I think Internet will be a pretty good source as there is a lot of information available. I am also going to check online video clips and online newspapers.

What libraries can get to? What people might you interview?
For library, first I am going to go to our school library, find some resources, and then go to Southgate Library or Henry Ford this weekend.
For interviewing, I am going to ask Mr. Neil or Ms. Russels to whom should I interview on this topic.

What other sources do you need?
Other sources like Books, TV’s, Magazine articles, and Newspapers.

Genetic Engineering

The following paragraph below also states why I chose Genetic Engineering as my research topic. I wrote this on March 6, 2002.

I have decided to do my MLA research paper on Genetic Engineering. I oppose Genetic Engineering because of the dangers it can have on our ecology and also us. Because there have been no long term studies done on Genetic Engineering, there is no way of telling if it is safe for us. Other reasons why Genetic Engineering is not safe because scientists do not completely do not understand living systems completely enough to perform DNA surgery without creating mutations which could be harmful to the environment and our health.
