Legal Immigration Vs Illegal Immigration - The Politics Saga Continues
Well Guys, I just decided to express a few of my opinions regarding the immigration debate. United States is a nation built on immigrants. To me, I feel that the future of United States depends on the fact that newcomers assimilate and integrate themselves into the American society AND use their distinctness to change America and themselves. I feel that assimilation is a 2 way street. Newcomers assimilate into the American society and America changes with each new immigrant group adding their culture into what makes an American society - a mix of all other cultures of the world.
I personally don't believe that illegal immigration is productive, infact it can be very disastrous to the American Society. The problem is not the illegal immigration, but rather over 10-12 million individuals not assimilating into the society. This would create problems as the new group would never feel part of the mainstream and this would create an ill-feeling on both sides. With one side rotting in poverty and the other believing that the wages and the standard of living is being dragged down.
The best way to allow immigrants into the US would be through legal means and stop illegal immigration. I do agree with the fact that there is no way, US can repatriate millions of illegal immigrants already present in the states, they have to be given citizenship as denying them this would only make them more poor. As said, realistically speaking US can't send all the illegal immigrants away. We have to live with that fact, grant them citizenship or some sort of permanent residency program, like green card and prevent future illegal immigration from happening.
The US government should strongly encourage legal immigration, as this is the only way to combat illegal immigration.
