As I just did Google Stock History, I thought It would be a good idea to do Microsoft Stock History as well. After writing Microsoft Stock History, I will probably wrap up today by doing stock history of Yahoo.
Microsoft Stock is one of the most followed stock in Wall Street, and I have written numerous articles on this site from Microsoft Perception to How Microsoft Zune has been received. There is no technology article that goes by without Microsoft being mentioned. In fact, in everyone one of my rants, there is some mention of Microsoft, or its ubiquitous operating Systems (Windows Vista or XP.
As mentioned in Google Stock History, the trend of Microsoft Stock is extremely similar to that of Google Stock.
Microsoft started the year at $35.22, and this Friday it closed at 28.05. Unlike Google Inc, Microsoft stock is quite accessible in 20s and 30s, while Google is just way too expensive at $400 to $600. Microsoft also pays a dividend of $.11, and paid the dividend twice for this year. Similar to Google, Microsoft stock declined throughout the year until first week of march, and then traded between $27 to $27 for the rest of the year, with the exception of a gradual rise between April 14 through Aprtil 24.
The graph below illustrates Microsoft Stock Performance for the year to date. Microsoft Stock Chart

Since I have already compared Yahoo Stock History and Google Stock Performance in Google Stock History, I am going to compare Microsoft Stock History with that of Hewlett-Packard and IBM. Compared to Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) Stock declined by 10.93%, while IBM stock gained 14.89%. Looking at the graph below, all the three companies started at similar price, but ended up wider difference by this weekend. Microsoft's lower performance can be attributed to its bid on Yahoo, which lowered its stock price.
