Nike Stock - Some of you may have read my Nike Financial Analysis, that I published last year. Since the Financial Analysis was written a while back, I decided that it was time to update some aspects of the Financial Analysis. I looked over it, and thought writing an article on Nike Stock Performance would be a good idea. So, here I am writing articles I promised but never seem to actually fulfill them. The Nike Stock Performance section that I wrote for the Nike Financial Analysis, had a 5 year trend along with major events that affected the price of the stock. I am not going to write on the major events that could have affected Nike's stock valuations not am I going to write another section on 5 year analysis of Nike Stock. Instead, I am just going to focus on Nike's Stock for the year to date, and for the course of the year, even though they might overlap with the Nike Stock Performance Section of the Financial Analysis. If you have any questions or doubts or would like further info, I would strongly urge you to check out the Financial Analysis article, as it covers a lot of information in-depth. The Financial Analysis article has Nike History - how it got started, its swish logo, its creators, and when it became a public company; Nike Corporate Structure - what business operations make Nike Inc, its international operations and divisions, and its markets or products; Nike Interest Coverage Ratio, Average Leverage Ratio, Nike Bond Rating, Nike Dividend Policy, and Nike Stock Performance.
The stock performance I am doing for Nike Inc is over the weekend, so the stock market isn't exactly open right now, but nonetheless it really doesn't make any difference - I just wanted to point out that fact. Nike Inc shares seem to be doing pretty good since the last time I did the Financial Analysis. Nike Inc stock closed at $106.30 on February 16, and the stock was last trading in after hours at $107.50 at 5:11 PM ET on February 16. The stock was up $1.20 in after hours, or 1.13%. 5 days back, that is from February 16, the stock moved from around $103 on February 9 to current $107. You can say that the modest increase in Nike stock price was due to declaration of dividends by Nike of $0.37 and Nike also announced that it was going to have 2-for-1 stock split. I thought that companies stock usually get suppressed when a corporation announces stock-splits but it doesn't appear to have affected the stock price in a negative way for the moment. Nike stock price would probably decline once the stock split is complete, and Nike stock price would go to its new price. As explained in our Stock Dividends article, corporations usually have stock-splits when they feel that the high stock price of their company is making it less attractive to new investors. A lower stock price would entice new investors, and spur the demand for Nike thus making Nike Stock Price climb again. Also, it is possible that Nike Management thinks that the stock price of $107 does not reflect "real" value of the company and that the price may be inflated, as such the reason for the declaration of stock split.
