Review of the AT&T GoPhone - Prepaid Cell Phone

Well, I am pulling out some of the things I bought, and reviewing them. AT&T Gophone was one the cellphone no contracts phone I got. I didn't buy the phone to replace my existing mobile phone plan, but to enable me to keep my existing number from Sprint.

A little back story - I wanted to keep my Sprint Phone number and switch to Sprint Sero, but they wouldn't just allow me to switch from regular sprint to Sprint Sero. After looking up online, I found that AT&T GoPhone was a good way to transfer my phone number. I ordered myself a prepaid refurbished cellphone (Nokia 2610 - GoPhone Pay As You Go) costing $9, and I have to say, for a refurbished $9 phone, it was very good - a lot better than my previous 2 year Samsung SPH-A680. From what I remember, The phone interface was very good, and quite satisfactory. The phone was shipped next day, and required activation.

The activation part was a little messy, and I messed up the first time. I have to say that the activation instructions for those transferring their phones aren't clear. I thought when I would activate the phones, it would come with my transferred phone number. I ended up activating a new phone line, and had to end up calling AT&T Customer service. On a note, I found AT&T Customer service MUCH better than Sprint, the person told me to go to a local AT&T store, and get a new Sim card - which I did with no problems. With new instructions on how to activate a transferring number, I activated my phone, and had my old number! I used the phone service for a day, and I was quiet satisfied with the voice quality. The phone came with a $10 card, and I think I ended up about $8 worth of minutes. The entire service was very good, but EXPENSIVE - the number of minutes you can call for a dollar is quite high, and is advisable only for people who use the phone rarely. The plan I got for AT&T GoPhone was Pay As You Go deal $.25 per minute as I was planning on staying no more than 2-3 days. They also had Pay As You Go Unlimited Talk for .10 per minute with a daily fee of $1.

AT&T Go Phone is definitely not for those who talk a lot, and want to be without contracts. Although you won't use extra minutes since its prepaid, I would advice this phone for only those who talk rarely. AT&T GoPhone service itself isn't bad, but definitely not something I would like to subscribe for over a month. One thing I didn't like was that minutes expired quite soon, I guess its their way of getting people to buy minutes on a regular basis.
