Facebook Addiction

Social Networking - Facebook Addiction!

I think I have social networking addiction, especially with Facebook and Orkut. I don't think most people in US use Orkut, but I think it is heavily popular in Brazil. Myspace is one thing I am definitely not addicted to, and I really do not like the whole user interface either.

Now, coming back to my facebook addiction, ever since they have added Instant Messaging to facebook, I am seeing a few patterns. A lot of people are logged on facebook, a lot time. The green circle seems to be there forever. I don't know what people do on facebook. I guess facebook addiction is affecting everyone.

For my part, I look at my profile, look at my friends profile, look at some random profiles, read discussion boards on different groups, look up some random groups and read their discussion boards, and look at other people's pictures. Come to think of it, the whole thing seems a little bit disturbing. Disturbing given that, I am spending hours, looking up at other people's stuff, reading some random discussion boards.

Beyond Facebook Addiction, Some Complaints.

The one thing I find annoying in facebook is their full wall or super wall. Most of it is just spam, and chain letters, and you friends keep sending it to you. I bet none of them even look at those stuff, and just forward it anyway. Facebook should really discard fun wall, its more like abused wall.

Facebook Changes

I read online that Facebook is going to make some changes to their user interface, and instead of everything in one page, they will divide facebook into different sections with profile on one page, applications on another tab and so on. This is a welcome development, and will be uncluttered as facebook has become so much like Myspace.

Now, pondering on future of Facebook - I think it can dramatically alter the way we use our computers (it has already done so), but imagine if facebook had my documents page tab, where you could save files on the life from your desktop. Facebook could literally replace our desktop computer. People use facebook (at least those that I know) a lot more than any other services online, and if you could incorporate news, some hard drive, email services, it could literally replace desktop computer. You could have bookmark tabs, your favorite files, music tab, share it with your friends, family, and co-workers. Sort of true blue social network, where every aspect of your life can be shared with others.

Say "Aye" if you got Facebook Addiction, or Orkut Addiction! No Myspacers Wanted!
