Microsoft Windows Touch OS Demo

I was reading news on BBC, and the headline Microsoft demos "touch Windows" caught my eyes. Apparently Microsoft is working on its new operating system and will have a "touch interface".

Now, this isn't really exactly surprising. When I wrote the Samsung Instinct and Iphone OS article, I thought wouldn't it be nice if we had a touch enabled operating system similar to that of CNN? I wondered long would it take for these touch interface to make it to mainstream computers. It seems like it will be arriving by 2010, when Microsoft will release its Windows 7 (whatever its name officially will be).

This is really exciting news for me, but it will be released too late. Two more years of wait for another operating system seems like forever. The touch interface will definitely will change the way we interact with our computers, and will make internet experience extremely well-enjoyable in my opinion. If Apple had never come up with Iphone and its touch interface, I guess we would have never seen the touch craze, let alone imagine that it would migrate to mainstream computers this "soon". If Iphone hadn't had a touch interface, I am pretty sure we would have seen a touch interface on mainstream computers no earlier than 2015.

Now that I know touch interface will be on the next generation computers, I can't wait for it, and am strongly hoping that Apple Computer Inc. will beat Microsoft at it. If Apple comes up with a nominally priced computer with a touch interface for its next generation PC, I bet a lot of people will start switching from Microsoft to Apple. The idea of a touch interface on computers seem revolutionary (at least to me), compare to the jump from Windows XP to Windows Vista where the only noticeable change seems to be higher quality graphics.

On an another note, I really hope that the next generation Windows OS has a really revamped Speech Recognition. The current speech recognition is OK, but I think there is a definite room for improvement.
