Toshiba Laptop Black Screen and Other Problems

Sorry I haven't posted any articles in a while. This was because my stupid Toshiba Laptop kinda "broke down". As you know, I have been using Microsoft Windows Vista for a while (I don't think this was any reason for it not working), my Toshiba satellite just stopped working. Just to give you guys a background, I shut my laptop down as usual, but apparently my brother needed to use laptop for some assignment of his. Once he was done with his work, he just left the laptop. The laptop went into "Standby Mode", and that was it. I tried to revive the computer the next morning, but the damn laptop won't start at all. I tried using CTRL + DEL, and a numerous combination of keys, hoping the laptop would somehow magically start. I crashed the laptop about 25 times for sure, using the power button for 5 seconds. I was so agitated that, I almost threw the laptop on the ground. I was extremely frustrated because I saved some crucial backups on my hard drive into the Toshiba laptop, but haven't transferred the files to my external hard drive. My Toshiba laptop had the only copy of the original Indews site, and since I was in the middle of the modifications, if anything went wrong with my site, I would be seriously messed up since I had no backups to rely on.

One thing I actually really liked was Toshiba was their customer support. For the first time, I actually had a satisfactory customer support. I had a girl on the other end, and I explained her my problem. At first she thought, my computer having Windows Vista was the culprit, but I had to explain her a few times that Windows Vista was installed on my PC for over 5 months, and that my computer has been running fine all this time. Anyway, she suggested that I remove the batter of my Toshiba Laptop, and also remove the AC adapter. Once I did that, she asked me to press the "Power" button for 10-15 seconds, after that she asked me to plug my battery back, put the AC power in, and start up my computer. She also asked me to hold down the "F8" button, while I am starting up. I couldn't believe it, after I had started the computer, with my fingers on "F8" key, the stupid laptop actually started. I could see the damn screen. Before this, I tried hopelessly to at least to the "safe mode" screen but to no avail. I pressed the F8 button, as many times as I crashed my laptop, but I have now learned something. If the laptop screen doesn't start or has a blank screen, just take the battery off of the laptop, press the power button for 15 seconds, and then start up the computer holding the F8 button down.

After that, I was happy, and she told me to call me back if I had any problems, and also gave me a phone number. Now, after I hung up, and started using my laptop, the computer just started crashing. This continued endlessly - I would start the computer, and then it would restart saying it has encountered a problem and to protect the files it is going to restart. After 20 such attempts, I was in no mood, to continue. So, I decided to just back up files, when the PC was in safe mode, and then have it reformatted. So guys, unfortunately I am now back to Windows XP. No more Windows Vista for me. I will hopefully get back on Windows Vista soon, as I am not happy being back on Windows XP, I miss Windows Vista and all of its snazzy features.

My final verdict : Toshiba Laptop Sucks, but its Customer Support is Awesome. My next laptop is definitely a Hewlett-Packard, from my experience the most reliable PC.

Hello,

Thank you for you post regarding the screen going black on your Toshiba. I did exactly what you said and it actually worked! Thanks.
